Old Sheldon Church Ruins
A few miles north of Beaufort, SC, the Old Sheldon Church ruins sit on private property but is open to visitors and serve as an event venue. Built in 1753, it was burned down by the British in 1779, rebuilt in 1826 only to be burned down again by General Sherman in 1865. Within the ruins is the burial site of Colonel Bull and General Oglethorpe, two key figures in the founding of Savannah, GA.
We visited during our tour of the Southeast Coast in July, 2026.
